To fulfill degree requirements to graduate, all Drew students are required to have an off-campus experience. Because of the University's strategic location on a beautiful 186-acre wooded campus (90+% of our students reside on campus) and close proximity to transportation (the suburban Madison NJ Transit station is a 10-minute walk from campus and a 50-minute ride to mid-town Manhattan), most students integrate an average of 3 off-campus experiences into their 4-year careers. They can fulfill the requirement/take advantange of our location in as many as 4 ways: 

1) NYC Semester/Year Programs: We sponsor 6 programs in NYC during the academic year, 5 of which are a semester--Wall St., the UN, Media & Communications, Social Entrepreneurism, and Cultural Arts--and a year-long program in Theatre. Common to all 6 programs is 3-4 days on campus in class with the professor and 1 (Theatre/Cultural Arts)-2 days (the remaining 4 programs) in NYC. On the NYC days, students and their professor take the commuter train into NYC and go to their respective sites for that particular day, where professionals in various related fields lecture, show, answer questions about what they do, how they found their way to the profession, and in what direction they believe their profession is headed. Reserved primarily for juniors and majors, these NYC programs are 8 credits (equivalent of 2 4-credit courses) and complement the student's full 16-credit semester program. 2) Internships: Regardless of discipline, students avail themselves of career-related internships in the immediate area and in NYC. Here is a partial listing of NYC-based internships: Decca Label/Universal Music Group, CNBC, Estee Lauder, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, Turner Broadcasting, Wells Fargo, CBS Sports, BBC Worldwide, Viacom, Lincoln Center, New York Women in Film & Television, Michael Kors, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tommy Hilfiger, American Cancer Society, Conde Nast, NYU Langone Medical Center, Cornell-Weill Hospital, Sirius XM, Johnson & Johnson, and Merck. 3) Community Service: Founded in 1867 as a Methodist Seminary, Drew, while no longer has an official affiliation with the Methodist Church, remains committed to the University's motto: "Freely Ye Have Received; Freely Give". We have a nationally recognized Center for Civic Engagement, a  Community-Based Learning curriculum, and a Civic Engagement Scholars program that requires students to complete 100 hours of community service and a community-based project each year. NYC-based internships include: American Red Cross, Children's Defense Fund,  The United Nations,  Museum of the Chinese in America, and the ACLU. 4) Ad Hoc Connections: Ease of access to NYC allows faculty and students to integrate the Big Apple in myriad ways: Baldwin Scholars trip to Lincoln Center for an evening of jazz, the entire first-year class embarking on a train in Madison to Manhattan for unique orientation experiences led by their advisors, an international politics class trip to the UN to attend the opening ceremonies of the General Assembly.
