As a mom of four, from 14 to 22 years old, a business owner and a volunteer, Jolyn Brand is a busy lady! She is a graduate of University of Houston with a Bachelor’s in Business Management and a Master’s in Educational Management, and is currently in the middle of doctoral studies in Higher Education at Northeastern University.
After teaching English at the middle and high school levels for several years, and at local community college and national online university, she was promoted into school program management. However, she missed the kids and the daily interactions with them, so she took a risk and launched Brand College Consulting in 2011. Since then she asked assisted hundreds of families through the college admissions process.
She is also a member of HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association) and
TACAC (Texas Association of College Admissions Consulting). She attends Counselor Updates presented by local colleges and makes 20 to 30
college trips each year to stay informed and aware of any new programs, scholarships, or issues at universities throughout the country.
Jolyn volunteers in local charitable organizations, such as serving on the Board of Directors for the YWCA Houston and also volunteers her services, pro bono, to pregnant and parenting teens in the area through CCISD and Communities in School. Jolyn also volunteers her time giving college admissions and financial aid presentations to area schools, libraries and churches.
Jolyn was selected to be interviewed by KHOU Houston's news anchor for a segment on college counselors. She was also honored to receive an award from Houston Woman Magazine and be chosen as a semi-finalist for the Woman Business Owner of the Year 2012 by the NAWBO Houston.
Jolyn was interviewed by Houston Matters, Houston Public Media News 88.7, for a live radio segment on College Financial Aid in May 2014. The segment included federal grants, scholarships, loans and saving for college. You can listen to the podcast at your convenience by clicking here.
